Ghana's Mohammed Salisu was in action for Southampton as Chelsea swat aside the Saints in ruthless fashion on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old guardsman, who has had an awesome season with Southampton in the English top-flight was a pale shadow of his former self as Chelsea unleashed their anger on Salisu and his team-mates.

Prior to the game against Chelsea, Salisu was ranked No.1 in the Premier League interception charts but was left gobsmacked with the ruthless nature of the Chelsea attack.

A brace from Timo Werner, Mason Mount and solitary strikes from Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz condemned Southampton to an embarrassing defeat.

How did Salisu perform in the 6-0 hammering?

The former Real Valladolid defender had one of his worst games in the shirt of Southampton as Chelsea rose from the Real Madrid and Brentford ruins.

Salisu won no aerial duel, lost possession on 14 occasions, made one error leading to a goal and mustered only one blocked shot in 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, ex-Ghana international Sam Johnson believes the Black Stars will need the services of Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu at the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar.

With many divided on whether the 22-year-old towering defender should be invited for the Mundial, a former Black Stars defender has weighed into the discourse.

Chelsea smash Southampton in ruthless 6-0 win

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, 9 April, returned to winning ways beating hosts Southampton 6-0 in a Premier League encounter in which Timo Werner scored a brace for the Blues.

Having lost their last two games against Brentford and Real Madrid, Chelsea players knew that beating Southampton would boost their morale and they did themselves lots of good by winning.

The home team started the battle unimpressive and it took Chelsea only eight minutes to score their first goal.
