  • Shauwn Mkhize is a very happy woman, celebrating her club Royal AM's rather unexpected season of success in its inaugural DStv Premiership campaign
  • Thwihli Thwahla exceeded expectations by far in the 2021-22 campaign, finishing in the Top 8, while also bothering the established giants of South African football along the way
  • Should Orlando Pirates fail to beat SuperSport United by five goals tonight, the result will see Royal finish in third place, booking their place in next season's CAF Confederations Cup

Royal AM Shauwn 'MaMkhize' Mkhize is a woman who is currently floating among the clouds if not the stars.

MaMkhize went on Instagram to celebrate what has been an unexpectedly successful season for her team Thwihli Thwahla. Royal is currently in third place on the DStv Premiership table, safely settled in the Top 8 they were expected to struggle to reach, instead probably battling relegation.

If Orlando Pirates does not beat SuperSport United tonight by five or more goals, this will confirm their placing in that position. Importantly, the team will be South Africa's representative in next season's CAF Confederations Cup.

Among other achievements, the club reached the Nedbank Cup semifinals, where they were knocked out by eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns. They also did the double over Kaizer Chiefs, while tying up the Buccaneers in two draws, for good measure.

She said on Instagram after the team came back from two goals down against Pirates last Friday:

"The plan this season has always been to maintain our status. Next year we were gonna strive for top 8 and there after we compete for top 3 but my boys surpassed ALL my expectations and confirmed us as the comeback kids.
"I would like to thank all the supporters new and old for standing by us and cheering us on all season. Next season we are coming back stronger and look forward to walking this journey with you all."

She then posted a video of the club in a jovial mood in a limousine singing along to Zola's legendary hit "Don't Cry". MaMkhize was reported to have contributed to the musician's cause after it emerged that he was in ill health and struggling financially, as was reported in the City Press.

Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize trains with team ahead of clash against Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership

You can never keep Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize out of the headlines.

As reported by Sports Brief, 'MaMkhize' was spotted training with the senior team ahead of the club's crucial DStv Premiership match against Orlando Pirates tonight. It is not uncommon for the family to get involved in the on-field matters of the club.

Mkhize's son Andile Mpisane, the youngest club chairperson in the history of South African football at the age of 19, made his debut for the club in 2021.
