  • Cristiano Ronaldo's claim of Portugal's goal against Uruguay has revived memories of the past
  • Ronaldo once denied former partner at Real Madrid, Gonzalo Higuain, a clear goal opportunity
  • CR7 was denied his nation's first World Cup goal after it was deduced he did not touch the ball

Cristiano Ronaldo is not new to controversy. In fact, one might argue that he lives for the limelight and could provide a whole ton of evidence to back up this claim.

His supposed goal against Uruguay in Portugal's World Cup match in Qatar has generated widespread reactions.

The prolific star thought he had given his side the lead, only for FIFA and subsequent reports by Adidas to credit the goal to Bruno Fernandes.

Even as the debate continues on whether or not he scored, a new video has surfaced online that has brought back memories of how Ronaldo once denied Gonzalo Higuain a clear opportunity to score.

Ronaldo: what happened with Higuain?

Ronaldo, then at Real Madrid, was in action against Osasuna when Higuain was put through on goal by Mesut Ozil.

Higuain rounded off the keeper and just when he was about to pull the trigger, CR7 surprisingly tried to challenge him for the ball.

With an empty net gaping in front of him, Higuain fumbled and fell down from his teammate's challenge, with the ball gliding out of play. Even more astounding was that Ronaldo didn't seem apologetic to his teammate.

To make matters worse, replays of the incident show the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was offside anyway.

Fans have never been able to grasp the meaning of why he attempted to take the opportunity from his striker partner. Luckily, Real Madrid won 5-1.

Arsene Wenger investigates Ronaldo/Fernandes goal

Sports Brief had earlier reported on former Arsenal Head Coach Arsene Wenger deciding whether Ronaldo scored the first goal for Portugal against Uruguay or not.

Controversy has surrounded the goal, which appeared to graze Ronaldo's hair on its way in from a Fernandes cross.

FIFA awarded the goal to Fernandes, but Ronaldo was seen complaining after the match that the ball had in fact touched him.

Ronaldo slammed for 'stealing' goal

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Ronaldo received criticism for stealing the goal which was credited to Fernandes.

The incident happened during Portugal's Group H World Cup clash against Uruguay on November 28.

Ronaldo and Fernandes lined up together during the crucial encounter, as the 2016 Euro champions looked to book a spot in the round of 16 of the World Cup.
