The Spanish and English giants were drawn to face each other in the Round of 16, in what is a repeat of last season's final.

Vinícius Júnior grabbed the only goal of that game as Madrid went on to lift the trophy, and while Benzema didn't score in the final, he still boasts an impressive return against English teams and against Liverpool themselves.

As reported by ESPN, Benzema scored four goals in his last six games against the Reds.

Last season he also scored seven goals against English opposition in the competition, the most by any player in a single campaign in Champions League history. That impressive outing took the French attacker to 16 goals from 23 games against teams from England.

While Benzema didn't feature in Madrid's defeat to Rayo Vallecano last night (November 7), he is being rested for the World Cup and for Madrid's attempts to defend their Champions League and La Liga title next year.

The Karim Benzema story

Karim Benzema is Real Madrid's second-best goal-scorer and best assist provider. At the beginning of his career, he realised that talent was not enough and sought help to get in shape.

Sports Brief has reported that the prolific footballer was a reserved kid in Lyon who loved football and dreamed of becoming the best striker globally.

This article tells the story of his determination through thick and thin, to earn the most coveted prize in the football world - the Ballon d'Or.
