Lionel Messi is on the cusp of world glory, but his club football future remains in doubt.

The Paris Saint-Germain attacker’s contract expires at the end of the 2022/23 season and no new contract has been finalised as yet.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has now confirmed that a decision on Messi’s future will only be made next year, Barca Universal reported.

The Argentinian superstar is currently focused on trying to win the World Cup with Argentina and has not held contract talks with the Ligue 1 side.

Al-Khelaifi, however, reassured fans that Messi was happy in France and that the club were happy with him.

“No decision will be made on Leo Messi’s contract before the new year. We are very happy and Leo’s very happy with us too. We will find the best solution together with Messi, we’re so happy and this is fantastic,” he said.

Messi has enjoyed a successful second season in France, and has already scored 12 goals and racked up 14 assists in just 19 games.

With the 35-year-old showing that he’s still at the top of his game, he has been linked with a move away from France.

Messi to Barcelona

Messi’s former side, Barcelona, are keen to bring the superstar back to Camp Nou once his contract expires. Football journalist, Veronica Brunati, even predicted that the Argentinian would return to the club on July 1, 2023.

A move to Inter Miami

Many were shocked when news broke that the PSG man was close to joining Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. ESPN recently dismissed the reports that the star was close to agreeing on a deal with the Argentinian superstar.

Barcelona’s planned happy reunion with Lionel Messi could come under serious threat.

The Spanish side are desperate to re-sign the Argentinian legend, two seasons after he left the club for Paris Saint-Germain, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Messi’s contract with the French side ends on June 30, 2023, but PSG have the option to extend it by a further year.

The future of Lionel Messi is still up in the air, following revelations that Barcelona are yet to reach an agreement with the camp of the Argentine for a summer move.

Messi has been heavily linked with a return to Camp Nou, as Barca President Juan Laporta and current manager Xavi have both spoken about the 35-year-old’s return.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Barcelona are yet to make an offer for Messi, and no agreement has been reached, Sports Brief earlier reported.
