Brazilian football star Neymar has finally broken his silence following his side's elimination from the World Cup.

Brazil, who were among the favourites to win the 2022 edition of the World Cup were sent packing from Qatar in the quarter-finals after a heartbreaking defeat to Croatia via a penalty shootout.

The two teams settled for a 1-1 draw during regulation time, with Neymar scoring at the death in what appeared to be the winner.

However, Bruno Petkovic netted an equaliser with three minutes left on the clock to force the tie into an epic shootout.

Brazil subsequently lost in the penalties, with Marquinhos and Rodrygo missing their spot-kicks.

Croatia, who reached the final in the last edition of the tournament went on to set up a crunch semi-final tie with Argentina as Brazil exited the competition.

Neymar reacts to Brazil elimination

Neymar has now shared his feelings about Brazil's elimination from the 2022 World Cup.

In a lengthy post shared on his Instagram page, the Paris Saint-Germain maintained that Brazil deserved to win the tournament.

"Thank you, Qatar for everything.. The cup was beautiful and she had to be from Brazil to crown it all, but by God's destiny, it wasn't," Neymar's statement said in part.
"We keep going... Now it's to turn off the key, take advantage of family and friends, and recharge energies because dealing with this defeat will be very difficult, it still hurts me A LOT," he added.

Neymar heartbroken after Croatia's equaliser

Sports Brief earlier reported on Neymar going from ecstatic to tears after Croatia equalised against his team.

The opener for Tite's side sent Brazil and Neymar to cloud nine as It looked to be enough to send the Samba Boys to the last four of the competition.

Petkovic found the equalizer in the 116th minute to send the game to a penalty shootout.

Once the game was done, cameras panned to Neymar, who could not hold back his tears after the realization that his World Cup dream was quashed for another four years.
