According to The Sun, PSG's decision to let Pochettino go came following a series of crunch talks between the two parties.

The 50-year-old who replaced Thomas Tuchel at PSG could only manage to deliver the French Ligue One title as he fell short of Champions League glory.

It is understood that PSG have for the longest time prioritised winning the European tournament.

However, Pochettino was unable to deliver the title as his side crashed out of the tournament in the Round of 16 after they were eliminated by eventual winners, Real Madrid.

The Athletic now reports that it has been agreed it would be better for Pochettino to move on after an end-of-season meeting last week.

PSG undergoes wind of chance

Pochettino's imminent departure comes just weeks after it was announced that PSG Sporting Director, Leonardo, will be exiting.

The Brazilian has since been replaced by a new football advisor in Luis Campos who joined the Paris-based club from Monaco.

Meanwhile, it now remains to be seen who will succeed Pochettino, with former Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, believed to be a firm favourite.

Incredibly, former Premier League boss and current Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has been linked with the lucrative job.

French president backs Zidane for PSG job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported French President Emmanuel Macron desires to see Zinedine Zidane coach Ligue 1 giants, Paris-Saint Germain.

His comments come on the back of speculations of the club's interest in securing the services of the Real Madrid legend despite current boss Mauricio Pochettino's contract running till 2023.

Macron, openly revealed his role in ensuring Kylian Mbappe extended his stay with the Parisians, and dreams of Zidane taking over the reins at the Parc des Princes.
