  • Orlando Pirates and Ruud Krol could be reunited in what would be the most sensational appointment of the year in local football
  • The Dutchman led an all-conquering Buccaneers team to the first ever domestic Treble by a South African team
  • Somehow and surprisingly, Pirates management did not renew his contract, something that still grates many supporters to this day

The great Ruud Krol could take the helm of the Buccaneers' ship once again.

The former Netherlands defending titan of the 1970s era will go down in South African footballing lore after leading Orlando Pirates to the first domestic Treble by an Mzansi team in the 2010/2011 season. Surprisingly, he was let go at the end of that campaign after his contract was allowed to mystifyingly expire.

At that time, he left foundations at the club so strong that Pirates repeated the feat the very next season after his departure.

Now, according to the rumours section of Soccer Laduma, Krol could come in to replace distinctly unpopular co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

The South African quoted the article as reporting:

“Legendary Dutch coach Ruud Krol has been offered to Orlando Pirates, a side with which he achieved great success in the past. Sources close to the coach’s dealings in South Africa have informed the crew that the 73-year-old would be open to taking up the reigns at Pirates if the opportunity presented itself once again.”

His recent coaching gigs have taken him through North Africa and the Middle East, with his last appointment being by Kuwait Sport Club in Kuwait.

Orlando Pirates urged to appoint former player Benni McCarthy as their next coach

Orlando Pirates has been urged quickly and snap up Benni McCarthy after he became a free agent.

McCarthy parted ways amicably with Amazulu last week after Usuthu's poor run of form this season.

McCarthy's agent Rob Moore said that the former Usuthu coach would take a break to be with his family, then take the time to reassess his options moving forward. This fuelled rumours of him joining a Soweto giant next season.
