The DStv Premiership season has seen many coaches lose their jobs, but no one saw Dan Malesela’s release coming.
Marumo Gallants produced the biggest shock of the pre-season as they announced that they would not be renewing Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela’s contract.
Malesela’s contract expires at the end of June.
The club took to Twitter to announce the decision and thank Malesela for his services during his time at the club and to wish him well in the future.
Dan Dance, as he became known, got his nickname for his trademark touchline antics whenever his team scored a goal.
He joined the club last year when they were in the relegation zone. He got them out of the drop zone and led them to the Nedbank Cup final, Times LIVE reported.
Under his leadership, Gallants also qualified for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup and finished in a respectable 10th place in the DStv Premiership.
Maritzburg United release German coach Ernst Middendorp via mutual consent
Ernst Middendorp has become the latest victim of Premier Soccer League clubs parting ways with their coaches this year.
AmaZulu FC, Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, Baroka FC, Sekhukhune United and Golden Arrows all parted ways with the coaches this year and now Maritzburg United have followed the trend. Orlando Pirates took a similar route when they let co-coach Fadlu Davids go.
Maritzburg United though parted ways with German manager Ernst Middendorp via mutual consent, iDiskiTimes reported. The publication got confirmation from Middendorp himself.

Lehlohonolo Seema has become the latest Premier Soccer League coach to lose his job.
The South African then confirmed that the 41-year-old was fired by Golden Arrows, with the defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns serving as the last straw.
Peter Shahulile scored a hattrick as Sundowns beat Golden Arrows 6-0 in their DStv Premiership yesterday, The Citizen reported. Seema was only appointed as Golden Arrows coach last year after helping Chippa United avoid relegation.
