  • Casemiro was visibly unhappy after Bruno Fernandes failed to score in the Carabao Cup final
  • Fernandes saw his shot blocked despite having a teammate in a better position than himself
  • Any blowback from the incident would be forgotten as United won a first trophy in six years

Casemiro appeared to tear into his Manchester United teammate, Bruno Fernandes moments after they won the Carabao Cup.

The Brazilian scored the first goal at Wembley Stadium as the Red Devils finally ended their six-year trophy drought.

Sven Botman deflected Marcus Rashford's shot for the other goal.

Erik ten Hag's men were on the back foot for the better part of the second half as Newcastle struggled to get back into the game. The Magpies couldn't account for their huge chunks of possession, with David de Gea called to action only a few times.

United had several chances to kill the game off, with the best one falling to Fernandes towards the tail end of the game. With almost every Newcastle player forward, the Red Devils broke away for counterattacks spearheaded by the Portuguese international.

Fernandes misses clear-cut chance

Fernandes swept aside one defender and decided to go for glory himself, despite Jadon Sancho being in a better position to score. His effort was blocked to maintain the score at 2-0.

Immediately after the final whistle, Casemiro was seen confronting Fernandes in what is assumed to be about the lost opportunity.

The former Real Madrid man has been a revelation to ten Hag this season. He has settled in quite well at the base of the midfield, contributing equally on both ends of the pitch.

Casemiro apparently did not take it lightly that Fernandes spurned an opportunity to kill the game. Lucky for both of them, Newcastle didn't have a late rally in them.

Maguire termed a hero

At the same time, Man United defender, Harry Maguire was hailed as a hero for his actions despite only playing for two minutes in the Carabao Cup final.

After the match, the embattled defender appeared to snub the club's co-chairman, Avram Glazer, who made a rare appearance to watch the Red Devils in action.

Sports Brief has reported the last time Glazer was present for a club game was back in August 2022, when Man United lost 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion.
