  • Bruno Fernandes has finally gotten hold of his desired jersey number at Manchester United following Juan Mata's exit last season
  • Fernandes has been after the jersey number 8, and it was finally given to him by new manager Erik ten Hag
  • David de Gea quickly took a swipe at his friend Mata on social media, asking him what he felt about the turn of the events

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has chided Juan Mata after Bruno Fernandes was handed Mata's shirt number.

Fernandes was confirmed as United's new number 8 for the upcoming season. Mata left the club at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract.

De Gea and Mata are old friends who have shared the same dressing room for over seven years after Mata switched from Chelsea.

The custodian tagged Mata to the official United post and said,

Mata scored 51 goals in over 250 appearances for the Red Devils, winning the Carabao Cup, Europa League and the FA Cup during his time.

Manchester United are confident of signing Lisandro Martinez

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester United were confident they can sign Lisandro Martinez from Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax this summer after tabling an improved offer for the Argentine defender.

The Red Devils are in a race with fellow Premier League rivals Arsenal to sign the 24-year-old defender who has been identified as a key target for Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United has now tabled an improved bid of €50m to persuade Ajax to sell Martinez as the figure looks way above what the Gunners can afford to pay.

Paul Scholes disagrees with Erik ten Hag's new policies at Manchester United

Sports Brief has also reported that Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has torn into the new set of rules introduced by new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag has hit the ground running at United's Carrington Training Complex by laying the foundation of how he wants things to run during his time at the club.

The former Ajax manager has the big task of taking back the club to its glory days after very disappointing spells from past managers since Alex Ferguson left.
