  • Jesse Lingard broke his silence on social media after the snub during the Man United-brentford game on Monday, May 2
  • Lingard did not feature, despite it being United’s final home game of the season
  • Many expected the midfielder to make an appearance to perhaps bid the fans farewell after being at the club more than 20 years

Jesse Lingard has taken to social media to aim a subtle dig at Manchester United amid the midfielder’s impending exit.

Lingard, 29, has been a Manchester United player practically all his life, having come up the ranks from the academy.

Despite his strong ties to the Old Trafford club, he was denied a proper goodbye in United’s final home game, a 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday, May 2.

With United 3-0 up thanks to a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo at the hour mark, many fans expected Lingard to at least make a cameo appearance to get the chance to bid goodbye to the home support as his contract continues to wind down.

However, Ralf Rangnick made contentious substitutions, bringing in Fred, Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones, completely overlooking Lingard.

Earlier, Manchester Evening News reported that the snub left Lingard extremely upset.

On Tuesday, May 3, Lingard made his first social media appearance since United’s win over Brentford with an interesting post.

The midfielder shared a photo of himself as a child, in the Manchester United academy, looking rather dismayed.

It did not take too much for fans to read into the 29-year old’s post.

Where can Lingard go?

Lingard is only one of several United stars set for the exit door ahead of the arrival of Erik Ten Hag.

Juventus are said to be highly interested in his services, but negotiations are yet to kick off.

West Ham is also another possible destination for the midfielder as he had a successful spell at the West London club on loan last year.

What Lingard’s brother said

One person who did not hold back in criticism was Lingard’s brother Louie Scott, who labelled the club classless for disregarding his sibling.

"20 years of blood sweat and tears, four domestic trophies, three cup final goals, not even a farewell. No wonder it's Conference League next year," he wrote on his private Instagram story.
