  • United could slip further below the Premier League table if Arsenal get at least a point against Chelsea on Wednesday
  • Ralf Rangnick was the first to admit the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool was embarrassing and “humiliating”
  • The interim boss, who will take a consultancy role at Old Trafford after this season, hinted to the club to do an overhaul of the squad

Ralf Rangnick says Manchester United might need to recruit up to 10 new players from next season after the Red Devils’ humbling 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday, April 19.

The Anfield landlords completely embarrassed their age-old rivals with a comprehensive performance to go top of the Premier League, at least temporarily.

Damage on Manchester United was inflicted by the likes of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz, who had a goal and assist each in the rout.

For Manchester United, they missed a golden chance to go level on points with Tottenham Hotspur, and Rangnick described his side’s performance as “humiliating”.

"It's embarrassing, it's disappointing, maybe even humiliating," Rangnick said as quoted by BBC.
The gaffer also admitted that Liverpool were at least “six years ahead of us” going into the game.
"When Jurgen Klopp came they changed at the club and lifted not just the team but the club and city to a new level. That is what needs to happen with us in the next transfer windows."

“10 new players”

Rangnick is set to take up an advisory role at Manchester United once his interim spell is over, with Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag now on the verge of being named new manager of the club.

Ahead of the new season, the German hinted of a mass overhaul at United, with the prospect of bringing in at least 10 new players.

“If you analyse the situation it is not difficult to analyse. For me, it is clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe ten new players. Before you sign those players you need to be aware how you want to play."

Defeat leaves United level on points with Arsenal, who have played two games less.

Fans united to show support towards Ronaldo

Despite the defeat to United, there was a beautiful moment during the game as both sets of fans came together in applause in the seventh minute of the game to show solidarity towards Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was a notable absentee from the game as he was given compassionate leave following the death of his newborn son.
