  • Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be making efforts to spur his teammates to fight for a top-four finish in the Premier League
  • CR7 returned to Old Trafford after twelve years and was handed his iconic No.7 shirt which he desired
  • Being a mentor to some of the players in the United dressing room, Ronaldo urges colleagues to work hard, focus and enjoy moments

Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo is doing everything possible to inspire his teammates to continue the fight for a top-four finish in the Premier League, Mirror reports.

The top scorer at Old Trafford is driving his teammates and has applauded “a great training session” as they prepare for their weekend’s fixture against Everton.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United having spent 12 years away at Spanish club Real Madrid and Italian side Juventus as he was handed the No.7 shirt again.

However, the Red Devils have been struggling in the English topflight as everything seems not to be going the way he expected.

The 37-year-old found the back of the net 18 times this season, but despite his brilliance in front of the goal, he has been criticised.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has shared an image on social media of himself in the gym with compatriot Diogo Dalot.

He said:

"Work hard, focus on the everyday goals, enjoy the moments with your friends. Great training session with my boy Dalot! Keep fighting!"

Rooney responds to Ronaldo’s cheeky jibe

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s comment that he is ‘jealous’ of the Portugal superstar.

The two former teammates have been going back and forth with each other in recent days, and it all started when Rooney made some interesting comments while on punditry duty.

Rooney, who is Manchester United’s all-time goalscorer, claimed on Monday that Ronaldo ‘was not the player he was in his twenties and despite the hype surrounding his summer move back to Old Trafford, Manchester United should cut their losses and ship out the 37-year old.

Manchester United identify Ronaldo’s possible replacement

Sports Brief earlier reported that Man United appear to have finally found a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo after a successful scouting mission in Portugal.

With Ronaldo entering the sunset years of his career, United have been hunting for a younger player who can fill his boots.

United scouts were in Lisbon on Tuesday night, April 5, to watch Benfica's Darwin Nunez in action against Liverpool in the Champions League.
