According to Mirror UK, United scouts were in Lisbon on Tuesday night, April 5, to watch Benfica's Darwin Nunez in action against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Darwin Nunez courts interest from top European clubs

The Benfica ace has courted interest from a number of European clubs in recent months - thanks to his impressive goalscoring form.

The striker has been in hot form for the Portugal giants after scoring 21 goals in 23 league appearances this season.

He further cemented his place as one of the fastest rising strikers in Europe on Tuesday night when he played as a lone striker in Benfica's 3-1 loss against Liverpool.

The tie saw Nunez come up against seasoned defenders like Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

However, not even the duo could stop him from scoring as the lanky forward powered home Benfica's consolation.

Darwin Nunez backed to replace Ronaldo at Old Trafford

Mirror UK claims Nunez is now being backed to fill Ronaldo's boots at Old Trafford in the coming months.

United are expected to enter the market in search of a prolific striker - with Edinson Cavani all but set to depart at the end of the season.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, is staring at an uncertain future with the Red Devils beyond the ongoing campaign.
