  • Marcus Rashford is having a difficult season so far, having only netted five times in all competitions
  • He is also struggling to establish himself as a regular starter in Ralf Rangnick’s squad for Manchester United
  • Latest reports suggest the 24-year old is set to be dropped from the England squad, having not featured for England since the Euro 2020 final

Marcus Rashford is set to be dropped from the England squad after a torrid run of form and insufficient game time at Manchester United.

Rashford has not featured for England since the Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy last year as shoulder surgery kept him out for a large part of the beginning of the season.

Since returning for Manchester United, however, the 24-year old has struggled for form, scoring a mere five goals in 24 appearances for the Red Devils so far this season.

Another challenge for Rashford has been integrating into Ralf Rangnick’s side as he has constantly found himself making appearances off the bench.

This was the case during the 4-1 derby defeat to Manchester City when he was brought on in the second half but was unable to make a significant impact for his side.

According to ESPN, Gareth Southgate is set to continue without Rashford for England’s upcoming games during the next international break.

On March 26, England will host Switzerland before their first senior fixture of the international break against Ivory Coast.

Who will likely be named in the squad

As far as England players are concerned, Rashford faces stiff competition and it is highly unlikely he will make the cut ahead of several other sides.

Southgate is likely to go for Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka, who are all very likely to be selected.

If Rashford is indeed deopped, he will have only two more international breaks to fight for a place in England’s squad for the World Cup.

Rashford considering future at Man United

News of Rashford’s potential omission from the England squad comes at a time when it is rumoured that he could be weighing up his future at Old Trafford.

He is reportedly feeling frustrated at the fact that he is falling down the pecking order at Manchester United, especially during Rangnick’s tenure.
