Borges was the latest to perform it, albeit against Ronaldo’s own club, but on youth level.

How the game went

As reported on SportBible, it was Manchester City U21 who conceded first as Joseph Wright Bennet found the net as early as the fourth minute.

That would be the only goal the United side would score as City turned up the style, with Borges netting four and Dire Mebude and Will Dickson also finding the net for the game to end in a 6-1 mauling at Leigh Sports Village.

After his heroics, the teenager paid tribute to his international teammate Ronaldo by performing his celebration.

As far as his season goes, Borges is a man in form as he has scored 16 goals in 17 games, and has been heavily tipped to break into Pep Guardiola’s first team.

Origins of the Ronaldo celebration

According to the Manchester United website, Ronaldo’s new celebration is a 'self-deprecating in-joke' that takes aim at the way he naps.

Ronaldo takes his sleep schedule quite seriously, with reports claiming he can nap up to five times a day to keep his performances optimal.
