  • Liverpool have endured a frustrating run of form across competitions this season
  • The Reds are in danger of missing out on a Champions League spot following their 4-1 defeat against Man City
  • Liverpool currently sit eighth in the Premier League standings with 42 points, seven off the top four

Jurgen Klopp has assessed Liverpool's chances of securing Champions League football following their latest setback in the hands of Man City.

Liverpool have been a former shadow of themselves this season, with the Merseysiders struggling to post positive results across competitions.

The Reds are set to end the season without a trophy having been recently bundled out of the Champions League.

Klopp's men had therefore turned their attention to securing a top-four finish as they seek to challenge for trophies next term.

However, that too seems like a mountainous task for a team that has dominated the English top flight in recent years.

Klopp rates Liverpool's top four chances

And Klopp seems to know this well after he painted a grim picture while sharing his verdict on his side's top four chances.

The German tactician insisted Liverpool's hopes of securing a Champions League spot will be over if they repeat their performance against Man City.

"Nothing to do with top four hopes. We have to make sure we have some consistency," Klopp told Talksport.

Liverpool were hammered 4-1 during their Premier League meeting against Man City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Despite a blistering start that saw them take the lead via Mohamed Salah, Liverpool were unable to keep up with City's intensity and quickly disintegrated.

Guardiola taunts Liverpool player

Sports Brief has also reported that Pep Guardiola savagely celebrated in front of Liverpool player Kostas Tsimikas after Julian Alvarez grabbed an equaliser on Saturday afternoon.

Guardiola had seen his side fall behind to a 17th-minute strike from Mohamed Salah, only for Alvarez to restore parity with a fine finish 10 minutes later.

As soon as his goal went in, there were crazy celebrations at the Etihad with Guardiola leading them. The Spanish manager turned on Tsimikas, who was coming back from warming up.
