  • Darwin Nunez began his Premier League career on a positive note when he came off the bench to rescue a point for Liverpool
  • Nunez grabbed one goal and set up the other as Liverpool avoided opening day defeat at the hands of a resilient Fulham
  • Last season's Championship's top scorer Aleksandar Mitrović bagged a brace to earn a worthy point for the home side

Liverpool began the new season of the English Premier League in an unconvincing fashion as they were held to a two-all draw by Fulham.

Aleksandar Mitrović was Liverpool's tormentor-in-chief as the Serbian scored twice. He first rose highest to head in the opening goal in the 32nd minute before winning a penalty which he duly converted in the second half.

Mitrović picked up from where he left last season where he finished as the Championship's top scorer. He linked up well with new signings Palinha and Andrea Perreira who gave a good account of themselves.

Liverpool's new signing Darwin Nunez came off the bench to equalise for Liverpool with a wonderful piece of skill. He then assisted Mohamed Salah to once again restore parity after Mitrovic had scored from the penalty spot.

Virgil Van Dijk was guilty of giving away the penalty after he failed to deal with some quick feet from Mitrovic.

Luis Diaz and Neeskens Kebano rasped the frame of the goal on either side of the half for their respective sides.

Fans tear into Trent Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool defender fails to deal with a cross

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported that football fans took to social media to troll Liverpool's defender Trent-Alexander Arnold after he was adjudged to have given away a goal.

Trent failed to deal with an incoming cross inside Liverpool's penalty area in their first game of the season against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Fulham's striker Aleksandar Mitrović rose highest, beating Trent to the cross to give the newly-promoted side a shock lead in the 32nd minute. Trent has often been blamed for his poor defensive skills despite being a real asset going forward with his delicious deliveries.
