The 36-year-old midfielder has signed a new one-year deal with Liverpool FC, a contract extension that will see him play in the Premier League for over 20 years.
Jürgen Klopp was keen to keep the midfielder, believing that he is essential to the team’s success, The Athletic reported. The publication also reported that Milner accepted a significant wage cut in order to stay at Anfield.
This is despite the fact that he received contract offers from two Premier Soccer League sides and one from a Major League Soccer franchise. Renowned sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano, took to Twitter to confirm that Milner would remain at the Merseyside club.
The club have since officially announced that their vice-captain would be a part of the side for the new season.
Milner was one of the big-name players expected to leave the club this transfer window, alongside Sadio Mané.
Milner began his career in 2002 when he was 16-years-old and will mark two decades as a player in the Premier League.
