Liverpool’s James Milner has honoured by the British Empire for his services in football and charity.

The midfielder has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Year honours list.

The Queen is marking 70 years as the reigning monarch of the British Empire.

The Reds' vice-captain was given the title for his services to football and charity. He has run the James Milner Foundation since 2011 and his football career has now spanned 20 years, The Liverpool Echo reported.

Milner’s foundation promotes healthy recreation for youngsters in the United Kingdom. The foundation hosts an annual ball and auction to raise funds.

His professional career started in 2002 when Milner was just 16-years-old.

He has played to Leeds United, Swindon Town, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and finally Liverpool. He has made 588 top-flight appearances thus far during his career, Liverpool confirmed on their website. 199 of those games have been for The Reds.

Milner has distinguished himself as one of the most phenomenal football players throughout his career. During the entire 2016/17 season, he impressed countless fans when he became Liverpool's first-choice midfielder all season.

He was born in Wortley in Leeds, England, on the 4th of January 1986. Milner kept busy playing football and cricket with encouragement from his parents.

After leaving Leeds, he played for not only England's national under-16, under-17, under-21, and senior teams, but also Newcastle, Swindon Town, Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Liverpool FC.

The Manchester United and England striker earned plaudits all over the world after he offered free meals to schools during the lockdown period across the summer.

The 22-year-old has raised over £20million in the feeding program and formed a child food poverty task force with top food brands and supermarkets.
