Twenty-seven of the 32 countries expected to compete in the global showpiece have already booked their place, with several others hoping to be among the five teams yet to qualify.

The qualification journey has been tough and rigorous, with tens of the teams that participated getting eliminated.

Italy, Egypt, Nigeria, and Algeria are some of the big names that will not be making an appearance.

Their absence will see a number of renowned footballers miss out as well, with Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, Jorginho, and Erling Haaland among the big names out of the tournament.

What is the best XI of top players not going to Qatar?

In goal, we have Jan Oblak, whose Slovenia will not be making a trip to Qatar.

The duo of Leonardo Spinazzola and Giorgio Chellini form the heart of defence after Italy were eliminated, with Man United's Victor Lindelof completing the back three after Sweden failed to qualify.

Mali's exit from the qualifiers affords Brighton's Bissouma a place in the middle of the park alongside Italy's Jorginho and Martin Odegaard of Norway.

In attack, Colombia's Luis Diaz will join Algeria's Riyad Mahrez on the wings, with Salah and Haaland leading the line.

Van Dijk sends Salah, Mane message after World Cup playoff

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Virgil van Dijk has sent Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane a tailored message after the Liverpool forwards clashed in a World Cup playoff.

The playoff pitting Senegal and Egypt saw the Lions of Teranga come out on top as Mane helped them book a place in the 2022 World Cup.

In his message to the duo, Van Dijk commiserated with Salah following Egypt's elimination - but warned Mane to expect a gruelling challenge should Senegal draw the Netherlands.
