Former Liverpool and Chilean international star Mark Gonzalez has suffered a heart attack, his wife Maura Rivera announced, The Sun.
The 36-year-old is currently recovering from the scare after the news of his ailment was broken on Instagram by his wife.
The Sun quoted Rivera:
“The love of my life, my soul mate, what a shock you have given me.
“The past few nights have been terrible. Days filled with uncertainty, it's been really frightening.
“I am writing this as you are still here with us and a little better - and because in many ways, the fact that you are still here with us, makes us cherish every moment we have together, family and above all, life itself.
“It's amazing how everything can change from one moment to the next.
“Life can surprise us and test us, instill fear, but with faith, strength and hope, we can come out of all of the bad moments. I want you to be with me forever, Mark.”
Gonzalez arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2005 under Rafa Benitez but was no allowed to play due to his delayed work permit.
And after a spell with La Liga club Real Sociedad, the Chilean was granted permission to play in the Premier League.
He made 25 appearances and score two goals on his return and was an unused substitute in the Reds Champions League finals loss to AC Milan in 2007.
Gonzalez returned to Spain to join Real Betis before heading to Russia after two years to sign for CSKA Moscow.
He played 56 times for Chile and made two World Cup appearances as well as winning the 2016 Copa America tournament.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Liverpool bounced back from their Premier League defeat to Fulham at Anfield to beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in their Champions League round of 16 tie.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored a goal each within the space of four minutes of the encounter played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
There were no goals in the first half as the Reds wasted several opportunities as Mane, Salah and Diogo Jota failed to find the back of the net.
