  • Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso's controversial claims this week have not sat well with certain observers
  • Cardoso, in an interview with Robert Marawa, pointed to a poor team culture during his time at the club for seven seasons
  • However, another former Amakhosi player David Kannemeyer was not impressed with Cardoso's comments and made his feelings known

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has earned the ire of players and supporters following his comments about the squad's culture during his seven-year stay there.

Speaking to Robert Marawa on 'Marawa Sports Worldwide', the 33-year-old made startling claims about the possible reasons as to why the Amakhosi are on the club's worst trophyless run in history, including alleging that some players would arrive at training sessions drunk.

Goal reported that another former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer is not happy with the manner Cardoso went about airing this dirty laundry, calling it careless and childish.

Kannemeyer said:

"I have read the comments by the player and, in my opinion, it is careless, especially now that he has left the club. As a senior player, he should have addressed the issue with the concerned player at the time, then he wouldn't have to speak about it in the media afterward as it would have been dealt with.

Of the opinion that Cardoso should not have made this matter so public, Kannemeyer added:

"When you are at a big club like Chiefs, such matters are handled internally and not in the public eye. Therefore, I think the comments made by him as a bit childish. Is it the truth? We don't know."

In the interview, the former Bafana Bafana defender linked Amakhosi’s lack of trophies over the years to the players' attitude and poor signings.

Cardoso was one of many players released by Chiefs in what is a monumental squad overhaul, as reported by Kick Off.

"Some players arrived at Kaizer Chiefs practices drunk": Former defender Daniel Cardoso

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has given insight into the culture in the club's senior squad, which has seen it slide into mediocrity.

As reported by Sports Brief, the 33-year-old is a free agent following the club's decision to release several players as it looks to address a seven-year-long drought without any trophies, under new coach Arthur Zwane.

Cardoso made over 200 appearances for the Amakhosi, scoring 13 goals but losing in four finals in his time in Naturena.
