Former Juventus Star Backs New Ghana Coach Chris Hughton to Succeed

• Stephen Appiah believes Chris Hughton is the right man for the Ghana job
• The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager has been appointed as coach
• Hughton will begin work with the Black Stars ahead of a game this month

Former captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah has called for support for new Ghana coach, Chris Hughton.

The former Juventus and Fenerbache midfielder believes the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion manager can return Ghana to its glory days.

The Black Stars have not won the Africa Cup of Nations in 41 years and Hughton has been left with the challenge of ending this AFCON drought.

"I mean we all know Chris Hughton, who has coached a lot of clubs in the UK," Appiah told Citi Sports.

The ex-Black Stars man mentioned Hughton being part of the team which travelled to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

"[Hughton] was the director then and now he is the coach. We are all hoping that we will rally our support behind him and he will bring our Black Stars back from where we use to see the Black Stars."

Appiah led Ghana to her first World Cup in 2006, captaining the team to the round of 16 in Germany. He was also part of the squad at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Hughton will begin his job in the west African country with an AFCON qualifier against Angola later this month.

Sports Brief also reported on the Ghana Football Association appointing ex-Brighton coach, Hughton as the new manager of the Black Stars.

However, the federation is yet to present the ex-English Premier League manager to Ghanaians almost a month after giving him the post.

According to spokesperson of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, the delay has been caused by the tragic passing of Hughton's father.

Appiah names five-a-side team

Sports Brief also reported on legendary Ghanaian forward, Asamoah Gyan naming a five-a-side team which includes himself.

The 37-year-old, who is yet to formally hang up his boots, named a team made of former players he considers the best.

The ex-captain of the Black Stars is currently in South Africa, working as a pundit for sports broadcaster, SuperSport.
