Ghanaian footballer Kwesi Appiah has bagged a degree in sports journalism from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom.

The 32-year-old, who currently plays for the English club Colchester United, has already started a career in journalism despite playing actively.

In a photo posted on social media, the player was spotted in his gown in front of the Staffordshire banner for graduates.

"A monumental day for my family and I. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest," he wrote on Twitter.

Appiah was a member of Ghana's team that reached the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. He scored two goals at the tournament and was a revelation for the Black Stars.

However, injuries plagued his blossoming career, forcing him to globetrot around clubs in England.

In 2019, he signed for Indian Super League side NorthEast United before returning to England a year later.

He previously played for AFC Wimbledon, Crawley Town and Crystal Palace.

Kwesi Appiah shines at AFCON 2015

Appiah shot into prominence in Ghana when he excelled at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana narrowly missed out on the title, losing to Cote d'Ivoire in a marathon penalty shootout.

Born in Greater London, England, he was eligible to play for the European nation but opted to play for the four-time African champions and was drafted into then-coach Avram Grant's 23-man squad for the AFCON.

Despite the scepticism surrounding his call-up, Appiah silenced his detractors when he scored for Ghana in a quarterfinal clash against Guinea.

Kwesi Appiah excited to join Colchester United

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Former Ghana international Kwesi Appiah has expressed delight after inking a new deal with English League Two outfit Crawley Town FC.

The 31-year-old forward was among ten first-team players of the club to have extended their stay with Crawley Town.

In a post on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, Kwesi Appiah intimated his satisfaction with the new deal after joining the Reds in August 2021 on an initial one-year deal.
