  • If all goes to plan, history could be made at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year
  • Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia and Ghana will represent the continent at the tournament
  • Each of these five nations could be led by a local coach, which would be a first

History will be made at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Unless anything changes, this will be the first time that each nation from the African continent will be coached by a citizen of the respective country. Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia and Ghana all booked their places at the global showpiece event, hoping to be the first from Africa to win the elusive trophy.

Morocco: Walid Regradui

The former Moroccan international was roped in to replace Vahid Halilhodžić, who led the North Africans to the tournament. Regradui is on a high, having coached Wydad Casablanca to the CAF Champions League title in May.

Aliou Cissé, Senegal

Aliou Cisse needs no introduction. He was part of the Senegal team that took the world by storm at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. Importantly, the Lions Teranga won their first continental this year at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Rigobert Song, Cameroon

The legendary Rigobert Song, one of the most recognisable Cameroonian former footballers, knows what it takes to be part of a World Cup tournament. He represented the Indomitable Lions at the 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010 editions.

Jalel Kadri, Tunisia

Jalel Kadri was an emergency appointment following the sacking of Mondher Kebaier after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations. The Carthage Eagles had to fight hard in the play-offs for the world cup, squeaking past Mali 1-0 on aggregate.

Otto Addo, Ghana

Another replacement, Otto Addo stepped in when he took over from Milovan Rajevac after the Africa Cup of Nations. Satisfyingly, the Black Stars knocked out Nigeria in the World Cup play-offs on the away-goals rule after the tie ended 1-1 over both legs.

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o sets huge target for Indomitable Lions ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup

Former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has charged the Indomitable Lions to fight for the prestigious trophy at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Cameroon will feature at the global showpiece, which will begin in Qatar on November 18, as they have now qualified for eight editions of the FIFA World Cup finals - 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014, and 2022.

The Central African country got to the quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup in 1990 before losing 3-2 to the Three Lions of England at the Stadio San Paolo in Italy on July 1.
