Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, has made shocking revelations on how the practice of 'juju' caused a Ghanaian player based in Italy his career.

Reports on the use of black magic, locally known as juju, have dominated the local media with both past and active players providing their versions of its practice among footballers.

Nii Lante, who is a former Minister of Youth and Sports detailed how the practice of voodoo has marred the careers of Ghanaian players.

There was a situation a player has been sacked from Italy because he was dabbling in those things,” the astute legislator told LifeStyle TV as quoted by Pulse.

He continued: “And anytime they go to the dressing room, he will be the last one to come out because when all of them are going out, he had to put certain things on his body before he gets out. But there were cameras there and they caught him."

“There was another case in Belgium when a talisman fell from a player (goalkeeper) so he was trying to pick it up and a goal was scored.” Nii Lante added.

The erstwhile broadcaster also gave an account of another Ghanaian footballer who failed to perform in France when he was stopped from performing his rituals in Europe.

“The thing is so endemic. I have had a situation where a player who was sent out to France, a wonderful player, but because he was not allowed to do those things, his football career ended.

“Because he had believed so much in those things that he thinks without them there is no way he can play,” the legislator ended.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that John Painstil, one of Ghana's most capped players, has finally broken his silence on the alleged use of black magic, popularly known as juju in camp during the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon 2012.

The former Fulham and Leicester City right-back disclosed that 'things happened' and he had to at a point intervene to calm down fears in camp.

In an interview with Ghana Web, the 40-year-old admitted the rumours of 'juju' in camp sparked fears among some players but he had talked his teammates down.
