  • Chelsea have approached Brighton over a transfer for midfielder Moises Caicedo
  • According to reports, the Blues offered £55-million to the club but it was rejected
  • The fans have now slammed both clubs, one for spending and the other for greed

Chelsea does not know where to stop as the club continues to strengthen the squad and make a statement in the transfer market, turning attention to a midfield which has not seen proper investment for years.

Mateo Kovacic was the last senior midfielder signed by the club, on an initial loan move in 2018. This made permanent for £40-million in 2019, during the two-window transfer ban imposed by UEFA.

Jorginho and Ngolo Kante are out of contract in the summer. While no renewal has been discussed for the Italian, the Frenchman could stay as talks are described as 'positive', as reported by Telegraph UK.

Fans react to Caicedo bid

As reported by The Athletic, Chelsea made an opening bid of £55-mil to Brighton for Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo, which the club has rejected as being below their valuation of the player.

According to Metro UK, the Seagulls value the 21-year-old at £70-mil, meaning Chelsea were £15-mil below in the offer, something which has upset fans on Twitter.

@itswhiteynick77 tweeted:

''There should be a limit on trades between one club to another in one season. They’ll be wanting to buy our stadium soon. £100 mill is about right.''

@BBaez28 wrote:

''Forget him for now, let’s go for a RB. I don’t see Reece James coming back from his injury (2nd time this season same knee injury) and lasting the rest of the season. Chelsea needs to focus on getting a backup RB.''

@ananthwiz tweeted:

''Lol Chelsea’s next bid will be £75M and it will be accepted. Just that Chelsea will add one more year to the contract duration and make it 9 instead of a 8 year contract.''

''Brighton are greedy. He’s not worth more than 40''

@CFCMod_ tweeted:

''Lmao don’t go higher''

How Chelsea avoids FFP sanctions

There were already questions raised about Chelsea's spending, after paying £88-mil to Ukrainian club, Shakhtar Donetsk to hijack Mykhailo Mudryk from Arsenal's grasp.

As Sports Brief earlier reported, the club is taking advantage of amortisation to avoid breaching UEFA regulations, as the contracts are spread across a number of years.

The two-time Champions League winners have handed out lengthy contracts to new players, with Mudryk given a deal spanning eight-and-a-half years.
