Reflecting on his career, Bolkiah - who has royal ties as the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei - spoke about his biggest regret in his professional career.

“I had about three or four offers after Leicester," he said to Main Stand, as quoted by SportBIBLE. “Maritimo said to me ‘you’ll come here, you’ll play’ so I said ‘I just want to be here for a year. The main thing for me is I want to play.’ Obviously, that didn’t happen."

Bolkiah said he definitely regretted moving to the club, and believes politics had more to do with why the club sought him.

"I didn’t feel like they were being fully honest. It definitely made me stronger."

Bolkiah signs for Thai club

Sports Brief reported that Bolkiah had gotten another chance to prove himself on the football pitch, after completing a move to Chonburi FC in Thailand.

Before moving to the Thai minnows, the Bruneian was at Maritimo, where he failed to make any league appearances before being released.

Despite being very wealthy and many expecting him not to be troubled by playing football professionally, the 23-year-old has a deep passion for The Beautiful Game.
