Nkunku has had a stellar campaign in Germany this season. The French forward has recorded 35 goals and 20 assists across all competitions this season.
Football London reports that Chelsea will however face competition as Manchester United are also said to be looking at the 24-year-old should a deal for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez fall through. Incoming manager Erik Ten Hag will require new attackers with the impending exits of Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and possibly Antony Martial.
Tuchel wants a new striker
Tuchel’s team meanwhile has continued to struggle up front despite acquiring the highly-rated Romelu Lukaku at the start of the season. Lukaku has struggled on his return to Stamford Bridge. Tuchel will be keen on getting a new striker if he is to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool next season.
The Daily Mail understands that Josko Gvardiol has grown to be a favourite of Tuchel. The outgoing European champions are set to lose Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers. Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are also understood to be seeking to move elsewhere.
Getting the duo will be no easy task. Nkunku is still tied to the German club till 2024. Chelsea are currently unable to make approaches for any player until the government lifts the sanctions placed on outgoing owner Roman Abramovich.
Apart from Gvardiol, Tuchel is also said to be looking at Paris Saint Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villarreal’s Pau Torres.
