Chelsea Owner Reacts to Claims That He’s ‘Begging Hollywood Pals’ to Lend Him Cash After Accounts Frozen

The owner of Chelsea Football Club Roman Abramovich has stated that he never begged pals for loans contrary to reports making the rounds.

Reports earlier claimed that the Russian billionaire has been soliciting from his high society friends for a $1million loan each after sanctions were imposed on him by the UK and the EU.

The entrepreneur has denied asking his pals in Hollywood to lend him such an amount in a bid to sustain his extensive staff payroll, according to The New York Post's Page Six column.

A spokesperson for Abramovich, 55, told the newspaper"

"He has not spoken with, nor asked for funds from these individuals."

They added:

"We have contacted the originating source 'Page 6' as they did not reach out to us prior to publication."
"This association has included obtaining a financial benefit or other material benefits from Putin and the government of Russia.”

Chelsea fans protest potential takeover

Meanwhile, a section of Chelsea fans on Saturday, April 2 made their feelings known about the club’s potential new owners, the Ricketts family.

Recent reports have suggested that the West London club could see ownership shift to Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and his family, and negotiations are still ongoing.

This is however to the disliking of the Chelsea fan group, who on Wednesday urged fans to show up to the game against Brentford at Stamford Bridge to protest the potential takeover.

Abramovich makes first public appearance after poisoning reports

Sports Brief earlier reported that embattled Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was seen for the first time since he reportedly fell victim to suspected poisoning.

The sanctioned Russian billionaire was spotted in Istanbul ahead of the next round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

His public appearance came just days after it was reported that Abramovich and two other negotiators in the peace talks exhibited signs of poisoning earlier in the month.
