Sky Sports reported that coach Hansi Flick named the youngster as part of his squad for the global showpiece, as one of the surprise additions to the team.

Moukoko, who was born in Cameroon, took to social media to express his disbelief that he was selected for the national team, and to thank everyone who believed in him and supported him over the years.

“I just can't believe it. Last year this time, I was still out of the window, struggling with many injuries and little playing time. I have always tried to stay positive and believe in myself,” he said.

Moukoko said he knew what he could achieve and was incredibly proud of being a part of the squad.

“All the hard work has paid off, and I am incredibly happy and overwhelmed,” he added.

Mokouko’s impressive season

The youngster has been breaking records for Dortmund and will be looking to do the same for Germany.

The Bundesliga’s website reported that Moukoko is the youngest player to score 10 goals in the league and is also the youngest player to play in the Bundesliga, making his debut at 16 years.

He's also the Bundesliga’s youngest scorer.

Mario Götze included for Germany

Germany have announced their squad for the FIFA World Cup, and it’s easy to see why they are one of the favourites.

While there are notable omissions for die Mannschaft, Hansi Flick’s side still boasts a great mix of youth and experience.

Stars like Timo Werner and Marcos Reus have missed out due to injury, while veteran defender Mats Hummels has also been left out, Sports Brief has reported.
