Sergi Roberto has taken a swipe at fans of Paris Saint-Germain for whistling at Lionel Messi, while subtly urging the Argentine genius to reconsider his future at the club.

The Barcelona midfielder raised an eyebrow over the hostile treatment meted out to the supestar by the PSG fanbase during Sunday's Ligue 1 clash with Rennes.

Messi and his PSG teammates stumbled to an unexpected two-nil defeat at the Parc des Princes, which fuelled the jeers towards the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, per 90Min.

Assessing the jeers targeted at the Argentine, Roberto, who scored a goal in Barcelona's 2-1 win against Real Madrid in El Clasico, slammed the supporters.

‘‘You can’t understand why. He is having a good season in Paris, scoring a lot of goals and assisting," the 31-year-old said as quoted by Sportskeeda.

"They’ve taken it out on him because of the elimination [from the UCL], but he’s a spectacular player, and it’s very bad that a player of this level is treated in this way."

While condemning the act by PSG fans, Roberto also suggested Messi would not receive such a poor reception if he returned to Barcelona.

"We’re going to treat him very well here if he comes.’’
