Ex Brazil Star Juninho Sees ‘Wisdom’ in Booing Lionel Messi
- Fans of Paris Saint-Germain are not happy with Lionel Messi and plan to whistle at him on Sunday
- Since Messi joined PSG in 2021, the club have failed to progress beyond the round-of-16 stage in the Champions League for two consecutive seasons
- Some fans of the Ligue 1 giants have levelled the blame on him for their most recent failings in the Champions League
- Ex-Brazil and Lyon star Juninho even understands why some supporters will express themselves in such a manner
Former Olympique Lyon and Brazil midfielder Juninho Pernambucano believes it is not out of place for supporters of PSG to whistle at Lionel Messi.
The 2022 World Cup winner has dominated the headlines all week long following the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Nonetheless, Messi, who was recently adjudged the best player in the world by FIFA, is billed to feature for PSG in their home game against Stade Rennais at the Parc des Princes.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, the fans of the club plan to boo the 35-year-old during the game to register their displeasure with his performance, especially against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Weighing in on the report, which has now been debunked, Juninho intimated that he wouldn’t be surprised if the supporters whistle at Messi.
"Even if he is Messi, he is still a human being. In the fans' minds, the last game he's in is the Bayern game, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets booed," Juninho said as quoted by MARCA.
He also took a swipe at Messi for his lack of aggressiveness and insisted the supporters won't be wrong to register their displeasure with the ex-Barcelona star.
"Even if he is Messi and even if he scored 35 goals this season, it's normal to boo him. The fans have every right to do so. In Ligue 1, they dominate their opponents. What surprises me is the lack of aggressiveness."
