Lionel Messi's potential return to Barcelona has been thrust into the spotlight again thanks to his brother.

Matias Messi delivered an explosive interview recently in which he claimed that his brother wouldn't return to the Spanish side anytime soon.

As reported by Barca Universal, Matias recently discussed the matter in a live Twitch stream, claiming that there needed to be a major shakeup at the club before his brother even considered a return.

“I have a clip that says ‘Messi should return to Barcelona’ and I said “hahahaha, we are not going back to Barcelona, and if we do, we are going to do a good cleaning. Among them, kick out Joan Laporta,”

Messi's side blame the Barcelona president for failing to do more to keep the superstar in Spain. Matias then went one step further, also targeting the Barcelona fans for not doing more to pressure the club into keeping the player.

“People [in Barcelona] did not support him. They should have gone out for a protest or something, Let Laporta leave and Messi stay. The Spanish are traitors," he said.

Matias' comments indicate that Messi's return to the club is nowhere near being a reality. The Argentinian superstar is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to agree on a new deal in France.

Despite Messi not yet finalising a new deal, Fabrizio Romano recently explained the situation. The renowned football journalist confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain is the only club speaking to Messi at the moment.
