Barcelona has stepped up their pursuit of Lionel Messi after meeting with the Paris Saint-Germain forward’s representatives this week in Spain.

Barca are looking to re-sign the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner who left Camp Nou after 17 years to sign for PSG following the Catalans’ inability to renew his contract.

According to Football Espana, a meeting between both parties occurred in the Gracia neighbourhood in Barcelona at the Botafumeiro restaurant, with three attendees present.

One of them was Alex Hernandez, brother of Xavi, another was Rodrigo Messi, brother of Lionel, and the third was Fernando Solanas, an expert in contracts and brand management.

With Messi set to become a free agent next summer, Barcelona are hoping to edge rivals Inter Miami and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the Argentina captain.

Messi to decide next club after World Cup

Meanwhile, with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and Inter Miami all pushing to sign Lionel Messi next summer, Guillem Balague gives his take on the Argentine’s next line of action.

According to the BBC, the Spanish Journalist believes Messi will make a decision on his future and next club after the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup set to begin on November 20.

Spanish football misses Lionel Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported La Liga president, Javier Tebas is rooting for Lionel Messi to return to the Spanish top flight again after reports emanated of Barcelona’s interest to re-sign the Argentina forward.

Messi dumped La Liga last summer for the French Ligue 1, after Barcelona failed to renew his contract at Camp Nou amid the club’s financial crisis.

However, Tebas has now insisted it will in everyone’s best interest if Messi were to return to La Liga, revealing the Argentine leaving Barcelona initially was a mistake.
