While many Spanish players felt they didn't deserve to be eliminated from the tournament, Torres suggested that Morocco had a bit of extra help, Barca Universal reported.

“Well, there have been moments when we have played against 12 players,” he said after the game.

He then echoed the sentiments of his teammates in saying that the one-time champions didn't deserve to go out of the competition.

“We were up to the task. We didn’t play badly in the first half. Football has been very unfair to us,” Torres said.

He did take positives out of the tournament, saying that they would come of of it stronger.

What did other players say?

Sergio Busquets and Rodri also expressed their disappointment with the result. While Barcelona's Busquets said they were leaving in the cruellest fashion, Rodri took a cheap shot at Morocco instead. Daily Mail reported that the Manchester City midfielder claimed that the African side just waited for counters in the 120 minutes.

“Morocco offered absolutely nothing, without disrespecting them. In the game, they did nothing,” he said.

Rodri: Spain midfielder aims bitter dig at Morocco, says they don't deserve quarter-final spot

Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, known as Rodri, has aimed a bitter dig at Morocco on the back of Spain's exit from the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup, Sports Brief reported.

The 2010 world champions were tipped as outsiders for this year's tournament, yet a resilient and valiant performance from the African side ended the Europeans' World Cup quest prematurely.

After 90 minutes of enthralling action and 30 minutes of extra time, Morocco achieved the unthinkable, bundling Spain out of the competition via penalty shootouts.

Sports Brief also reported that Morocco progressed to the quarter-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, defeating 2010 winner Spain 3-0 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.

Madrid-born Hakimi scored the last spot kick to send the Atlas Lions through. Coach Enrique has now praised his players despite their disappointing elimination.

Enrique defended his players, claiming they executed his idea of football perfectly, and although the result did not go their way, he had no complaints about his stars.
