Laporta had insinuated the Barcelona legend was not ready for the challenge coaching La Blaugrana will bring as he was ill-prepared for the task against Inter Milan.

Xavi will once again guide Barcelona in this weekend’s El Clasico against Real Madrid and the result of the game against the Catalans’ fiercest rivals could well determine his future at the club.

Laporta’s confidence in Xavi is intact

Meanwhile, Joan Laporta retains faith in Xavi Hernandez despite Barcelona's 3-3 draw at home against Inter Milan and their potential elimination from the Champions League.

According to Marca, Laporta stressed that Barcelona’s priority this season is to win La Liga, where they are currently sitting top of the table ahead of Sunday's Clasico against Real Madrid.

Barcelona’s president revealed Xavi still remains the man that can help the team make progress as he believes they are still on the right track despite the shaky few weeks.

Unhappy Barcelona fans want Thomas Tuchel

Earlier, Sports Brief reported following Barcelona's disappointing draw against Inter Milan, some fans of the Catalan club are calling for the sack of manager Xavi Hernandez.

Xavi's Barcelona are enduring a torrid run in Europe despite their blistering performance in La Liga.

The Blaugrana played out to a 3-3 draw against the Italian giants in a must-win UEFA Champions League clash at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday night.
