  • Percy Tau is unhappy with comments made by Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, after his latest injury update

Percy Tau won’t be available for Bafana’s upcoming friendlies against Guinea and France, but if Ahmed Shobier is to be believed, Tau won’t return to the squad while Broos remains in charge.

Ahmed Shobier, a former Al-Ahly goalkeeper, is a legend at the club and has shared his views on Percy Tau’s recent withdrawal from the squad.

Percy Tau was included in the 23-man squad to take on Guinea and France this month but withdrew himself due to a knee injury. Tau picked up the injury while playing for Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.

Hugo Broos was unhappy that the player was injured again, saying that it was a constant problem with Tau. As reported by Goal.com, Broos suggested that Tau take a six-month break from football in order to recover from his numerous injuries. Broos added that numerous players picked up injuries when they were regularly playing in games and it was only natural.

According to Shobier, Tau was deeply upset by the comments and doesn’t want to play for the national team while Broos remained in charge, Soccer Laduma reported.

"South Africa head coach excluded Tau from his squad and he seems to be angry with the player," Shobier said.
"After excluding Tau, Broos made a statement, claiming that the player needs a six-month break,” he added.

Shobier’s comments though seem to suggest that Broos excluded Tau from the squad, despite the coach saying that the play withdrew due to his injury.

Percy Tau suffers injury, withdraws from Bafana squad, replaced with Royal AM's Victor Letsoalo by Hugo Broos

In other news relating to the South African team, Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has replaced Percy Tau with Royal AM’s Victor Letsoalo for Bafana’s upcoming friendlies, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Letsoalo was originally part of the provisional squad to take on Guinea and then France but did not make the final 23-man squad. Percy Tau was included in the squad but suffered a knee injury during Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League fixture over the weekend, KickOff reported.

The news has frustrated Hugo Broos, who has become tired of the constant injuries to one of his key players, The Witness reported. Bafana has already jetted off to Europe for their upcoming international friendlies. Bafana will take on Guinea in Belgium on 25 March and then turn their attention to World Champions France on 29 March.
