However, despite being extremely talented, Zungu has also had his discipline issues which saw him suspended at Rangers and dropped from the Amiens SC side for a period of time.

He has now also failed to make the Bafana squad. Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, recently explained why he didn’t select Zungu, The South African reports. Zungu was last selected for Bafana in May 2021.

“You know when you see his career until now and what happened over the last few years, yes I will see for the next few months but I don’t think for the moment it’s the right time to take him,” Broos said.

Zungu ruined his chances of much game time at his club as well, following his recent red card against Pau. His attitude during the game and leading to the red card was described as unacceptable.

Broos has only included four overseas players in his preliminary team to compete in the friendlies, Soccer Laduma confirmed.

Fagrie Lakay and Percy Tau currently play in Egypt (Pyramids and Al Ahly), Lyle Foster is in Belgium (Westerlo) and Bongokuhle Hlongwane is in America (Minnesota United).

Bafana will take on Guinea on 25 March in Belgium before facing World Champions, France, on 29 March.

Bongani Zungu sent off for dissent, coach blames the South African player for Amiens loss in French Ligue 2

Just weeks after Bongani Zungu was being praised for his performances in France, the South African player has landed himself in trouble once again. Zungu was just returning to form for French Side Amiens, having been moved to a new position in defence.

This past weekend though, Bongani Zungu angered his club with his actions during a game, and Amiens coach and management blamed the player for the loss against Pau, Sports Brief recently reported.

Zungu was sent off after he received two yellow cards in quick succession. Zungu was given a yellow for dissent as he argued with the referee. The card didn’t deter the player and he continued to argue with the referee over the issuing of the card and was given a second yellow, just seconds later. As reported by KickOff, his attitude towards the referee was described as aggressive.
