  • Malawi beat Zimbabwe in an entertaining AFCON clash but more football fans seemed to be interested in the commentary
  • Social media was left confused by the commentator's continued mistake of calling the Zimbabwean national team, South Africa
  • The commentator calling Zimbabwe South Africa was too soon for many Bafana fans who wished the team was in the tournament

Malawi beat Zimbabwe by two goals in an exciting African Cup of Nations clash earlier today, but fans were more entertained by the commentator who kept on making the same mistake.

Fans couldn't help but notice that the commentator kept referring to Zimbabwe as South Africa, a sore point for many Bafana fans who wished their team was actually playing in the tournament.

Malawi won the match but it was Zimbabwe and South Africa that trended on social media thanks to the commentator.

@Khangweezy:

"This commentator is bad. If he's not calling Zimbabwe South Africa, he calls Musona Musuna"

@James_StPat999:

This is a beautiful game to watch , not the commentator calling Zim South Africa Man just rubbing salt #MALZIM"

@SEPHIRI_M:

"@CAF_Online your boy (Commentator) keeps saying Zimbabwe is South Africa. You see why we keep asking you guys to use African commentators instead of these UK guys? #AFCON2021"

@RhuNdimande:

"Why is the commentator in this match keep referring to Zimbabwe as South Africa?"

@i_Nxakanxaka:

"What a header by the province of South Africa, Zimbabwe representing"

@ToolzTD:

"Worse part is I had just switched on the TV and in barely 5 minutes (33' - 38')he's referred to Zimbabwe as South Africa about 4 times. Referred to COSAFA as a South African tournament."

AFCON 2021: Malawi come from behind to beat Zimbabwe thanks to a Gabadinho Mhango brace

In other football news, Malawi recorded their first win of AFCON 2021 when they beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in an entertaining encounter at the Kouekong Stadium, Cameroon, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Malawi had to work hard for the win and came from behind to beat The Warriors thanks to two goals from Orlando Pirates striker, Gabadinho Mhango. Both teams needed a win to keep their hopes alive in the competition and that was evident in which the game started.

It was a frenetic start to the game which saw both teams give away the ball quite often in the first ten minutes. Stanley Sanudi had the first real chance of the game for Malawi but sent his volley into the stands from a difficult angle.
