  • South Africans recently heaped praise on Nigeria for their win over Egypt but others weren't happy with their countrymen
  • Nigerians supporters were grateful for the sudden praise from Mzansi as their team easily beat Egypt
  • Many Mzansi football lovers are still pining over South Africa's absence from the AFCON competition

Social media is still talking about Nigeria's win over Egypt in their AFCON encounter and the match had South Africans also airing their views.

Nigeria defeated Egypt 1-0 but were unlucky not to have won by a bigger margin.

Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City score the Super Eagle's only goal as they held on for a well-deserved draw, Sport24 reported.

Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz was unimpressed with his team's performance but looked towards their next two fixtures to turn things around, Goal.Com noted.

South Africans then took to social media to comment on the game and to praise the Nigerians for their impressive win. Fans were taken with how easy Nigeria seemed to run around the Egyptian defence and how quiet they managed to keep Mo Salah.

But while Mzansi praised the Super Eagles, other South African supporters took issue with it while Nigerians were thankful for the support.

Dingana Morra Morra:

"they will keep on praising other countrys"

Bishop Joseph:

"How I wish Bafana Bafana are in this Tournament. They always make african Cup of Nation to look Fun. Well Thanks for your love to Super Eagle. Bishop Joseph"

Rammala Rammala"

"Let's be honest, Nigeria plays a good football and I don't remember Nigeria robbing any team."

Marumo Andile Puleng Modiba:

"I just feel sorry for south Africans. Be watching from backseat and praising every Tom and Jerry"

Nkanyiso Jali Ngcolosi:

"I hope safa is reading all these posts..then they will realise that..they owe us as a nation.... We are so passionate about football.but they mismanagement of South Africa football... We don't hav bafanabafana in both Afcon and FIFA world cup"

Mzansi praises the Super Eagles after an impressive win over the Pharaohs of Egypt

In other African Cup of Nations related news, South Africans were highly impressed with the controlled and rather comfortable win for Nigeria over an imposing Egypt team, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho's beautiful strike in the 30th minute was the difference between the sides in the group D opener. There can be no question about how well in control the Super Eagles were, encapsulated by how well they neutralised the otherwise usually deadly Liverpool assassin Mohamed Salah.

@elsaheedgroup said:

"Aside being outplayed by Nigeria Super Eagles, I also think Egypt's problem is over-reliance on @MoSalah, thus if Mo Salah doesn't show up at the party it means doom to Egypt. Going forward Egypt should decentralise their success on the pitch."
