“I see him as a striker who can play as a lone forward, or in behind. He’s similar to Costa, who was a striker that started as second striker, but became a No.9, as he scored goals regularly and was explosive.”

Costa became a huge hit for Atletico fans as the Spanish international scored 83 goals and provided 36 assists over the course of his two spells and also won the La Liga title twice with the Spanish club.

Depay reveals reason for Atletico switch

Meanwhile, New Atletico Madrid signing, Memphis Depay, has said he joined the club from Barcelona because Los Rojiblancos wanted him, Daily Post reports.

Depay joined Diego Simeone's team earlier on Friday after the club and Barcelona agreed on a €3 million agreement with €1 million in add-ons.

The former PSV, Manchester United, and Lyon forward signed a two-and-a-half-year deal that will see him remain at Atletico until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Depay Completes His Move to Atletico

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Memphis Depay has joined Atletico Madrid from La Liga rivals Barcelona in the winter transfer window.

The 28-year-old Dutch-born Ghanaian signed a two-and-a-half year deal. The deal includes an option for Yannick Carrasco to join Barcelona in future.

Depay immediately joined his new teammates in training as he begins a new journey in his career.
