Football fans have made a light-hearted claim about Atletico Madrid's Rodrigo De Paul's close-knit relationship with Lionel Messi.

De Paul, who is teammates with PSG's Leo Messi in Argentina, has made the headlines following his passionate defence of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

The 28-year-old Atletico man led a group of furious Argentina players to square off against Honduras, following a bad tackle on talismanic Messi during an international friendly.

This was in the full glare as De Paul led Argentina players in protesting Messi's harsh treatment during an international friendly against Honduras.

Messi was captaining his side at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami when he went down after a challenge from the opponents.
