Mother of Ghana Premier League Star Richmond Lamptey Breaks Down in Tears on Radio After Son's Ban

Mother of Asante Kotoko midfielder, Richmond Lamptey, is pleading for her son to be forgiven after he was banned by the Ghana Football Association.

Richmond Lamptey has been handed a 30-month ban by the Ghana Football Association after he was found guilty of playing a part in a match-fixing game between Inter Allies, his former club, and Ashantigold.

In a video spotted by Sports Brief, Lamptey's mother could not hold back her tears as she implored Ghanaians to help her son get back to playing.

“In the said match, he was substituted before the own goals were scored. I have cried as a result of this. I don’t want him to sit home, he is my only son,” she said as quoted by Pulse.

“The boy who named him often asks my son for money but because he doesn’t give him, he decided to include him.”

Richmond Lamptey played in the game which ended with Hashim Musah scoring two bizzare own goals. Inter Allies ended up getting relegated after Ashantigold won 7-0.

And in a statement by the Ghana Football Association, it explained why the midfielder was banned.

“Richmond Lamptey of Inter Allies FC is hereby banned for a period of 30 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations,” a section of the ruling said.

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum resigns

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach, Dr Prosper Ogum, has reportedly left his role as trainer of the Porcupine Warriors after just ten months in charge of the club.

The former WAFA coach resigned from his role following a successful campaign in the domestic league with the Reds.

According to multiple reports, Dr Ogum decided to quit after a meeting with the management of the team on Wednesday.
