  • Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have officially announced 2010 FIFA World Cup participant Samuel Inkoom as their latest acquisition
  • Inkoom was influential for Asante Kotoko, where he became a cult hero, as they won the Ghana Premier in 2008 before he departed for Europe the following year
  • Hearts of Oak will be Samuel Inkoom's 14th club since making his professional debut with Sekondi Hasaacas in 2007

Capital-based heavyweights Accra Hearts of Oak have announced the acquisition of former Asante Kotoko full-back Samuel Inkoom.

Samuel joins the reigning Ghana Premier League champions on a one-year deal and is expected to shore up the defence of the Phobians.

In a post on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, Hearts of Oak welcomed their latest addition ahead of their weekend encounter against fierce rivals Asante Kotoko.

Inkoom, who is a native of Takoradi, has enjoyed a nomadic career having played across four continents with his latest move being his 14th different club in his professional career.

The 32-year-old right-back's move to Hearts of Oak comes on the back of impressing the technical handlers of the club after training with the capital-based outfit in the past few weeks.

He last played for Georgian outfit FC Torpedo Kutaisi in December 2021 and could be in line for selection as the Phobians cross swords with the Porcupine Warriors in the second instalment of the Super Clash, which will be staged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The ex-Asante Kotoko defender walks in the footsteps of former Inter Milan and AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari, who has largely enjoyed a decent stint with the Phobians since joining in the January transfer window.

Samuel Inkoom eyes Ghana Premier League return

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom is eyeing a return to the Ghana Premier League before he retires from active football.

The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract ended with Georgia club, FC Torpedo Kutaisi in December last year.

Inkoom played for Asante Kotoko and won the Ghana Premier League with the Porcupine Warriors before he departed for Europe in 2009.
