The former Arsenal manager tried to sign Partey for the London club during his time in England, but Atletico Madrid were not ready to let the Ghanaian leave at the early stages of his career.

However, after years of pursuing the Ghanaian, manager Mikel Arteta was able to lure the midfielder to England on transfer deadline day in 2020.

Partey has since been a key figure at Arsenal as the Gunners chase their first Premier League title in 19 years. The last league title won by Arsenal was under the tutelage of Wenger.

On Monday, Arsenal beat West Ham 3-1 to maintain their spot at the top of the table.

Nketiah scores as Arsenal beat West Ham

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Eddie Nketiah put the icing on the cake with a lovely finish as Arsenal return to English Premier League action with a convincing win against London rivals West Ham.

The English-born Ghanaian who was handed a starting role following injury to Gabriel Jesus, repaid manager Mikel Arteta's faith in him with an incredible team goal.

Nketiah cleverly turned his marker before slotting home to finish off a swift display from the Gunners.

Arteta delighted with Partey's return

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shared his excitement following the return of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey.

Partey struggled as the Black Stars suffered a first-round elimination at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 29-year-old rejoined his Arsenal teammates in Dubai for mid-season training ahead of the return of the English Premier League.
