Speaking ahead of their Monday meeting, Xhaka vowed to ‘smash’ his Arsenal team-mates Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.

"I told Gabby Martinelli and Gabby Jesus, if you are running one against one against our goalkeeper, I will smash you," he said via The Sun.

Xhaka said that they played for the same club side did not matter, as one player for their own team and country at the World Cup, with a desire to win.

"Of course, they were worried. They know me. If I smash you, it will be very, very hard," he added.

Pictures capture Neymar's injured ankle

Sports Brief earlier reported on Neymar sharing photos of his ankle injury and also sending an inspirational message to his teammates.

Neymar's World Cup journey with Brazil has always been punctuated with injuries, after he missed the 2014 semi-final with a fractured back.

Nikola Milenkovic was responsible for Neymar's injury at this year's Mundial, leaving the forward covering his face in anguish as he received treatment.

The star forward has scored 75 goals for the national team and is just two shy of Pele's record of 77, which has him as Brazil's all-time top scorer.
