  • A new date for the rescheduled Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal north London clash has finally been decided
  • The two top-four favourites are scheduled to lock horns on Thursday night, May 12, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • The fixture is expected to have a bearing on who secures the final Champions League spot, with both teams currently tied on 54 points

A new date for the much-anticipated north London derby pitting Arsenal and Tottenham has been confirmed.

The original fixture was postponed amid a COVID-19 outbreak in the Arsenal camp, much to the chagrin of Tottenham boss, Antonio Conte.

At the time, Conte expressed his displeasure with a decision by the Premier League to push ahead the fixture, insisting it should have gone ahead as earlier scheduled.

Date confirmed for Tottenham vs Arsenal

However, a date between the two arch-rivals has finally been confirmed, with the derby now set for the night of Thursday, May 12, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The fixture comes at a time both teams are in good shape and has now been touted as a potential decider for the top-four race.

Tottenham currently occupy fourth place on the standings with 54 points following their 5-1 rout over Newcastle on Sunday, April 3.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are right behind them with a similar number of points only that Spurs boast a superior goal difference.

Arsenal's top-four hopes dented

The Gunners had a chance to leapfrog Spurs to the fourth spot but squandered the opportunity after they lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace on Monday night, April 4, at Selhurst Park.

Goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew, and Wilfried Zaha condemned Mikel Arteta's charges to a comprehensive defeat.

The Emirates outfit will now be hoping to secure a favourable result when they host Brighton in their next fixture set for Saturday, April 9.
